The meeting with the employees gave Ms. Michailidou the opportunity to discuss with them
In Troizenia and Poros, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Domna Michailidou, visited on Friday afternoon, April 26, 2024.
The Minister of Labor and Social Security talked to residents of the area about daily issues that concern them, their needs, and initiatives aimed at further developing and promoting the island.
Ms. Michailidou had the opportunity to talk to employees who, since April 1, 2024, have seen their income increase due to the minimum wage hike and the triennial increments. She also met with women and discussed the need to further strengthen their position in the labor market.
Specifically, the Minister of Labor and Social Security said: “Through the prioritization we are making, our goal is to address the issues that concern our fellow citizens directly, in order to improve their daily lives. In this spirit, the special maternity protection benefit is included, which non-salaried mothers have been receiving for a few days now. With this measure of justice, if we also consider the childbirth allowance, the total amount that non-salaried mothers will receive ranges up to 10,970 euros or up to 1,200 euros per month.”
As stated in an announcement, the first stop of her visit was Galatas, where Ms. Michailidou met with the mayor of Troizenia and Methana, Anastasios Mouyios, with whom they extensively discussed the issues that concern the local community. She then went to Poros, where she met with the mayor of the island, George Koutzis. The subjects of discussion were the daily issues that concern the island’s residents and the prospects for its development and growth. In the afternoon of the same day, the Minister of Labor and Social Security visited the island’s port, where the 20th East Med Yacht Show 2024 is taking place these days, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world each year and promoting nautical tourism simultaneously.
Finally, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, stated: “Sustainable development and attracting investments, which will strengthen the labor market and the income of employees, are key pillars of the government’s policies. However, critical is for this development to be based on the foundations dictated by the times. Green development and green jobs are today the greatest challenge and opportunity. The government actively supports this transition. Within this framework is also the transformation of Poros, which will become the third “green” island of the country through the GR-eco Islands program.”
